Thielsch Installs a Steam Turbine/Generator System at UMass

Summary

The Massachusetts Department of Capital Asset Management awarded Thielsch Engineering the contract to design, purchase, install, commission and reliability test a 2 MW Steam Turbine/Generator system for the power plant at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The contract value is over $3,000,000. The project included piping 600 PSIG steam through the turbine/generator system reducing it to 200 PSIG; full integration with the existing plant control system; installation of related lubrication and electrical systems, etc. The project will save UMASS approximately $150,000 a month in energy costs. The project was completed on budget and three months ahead of schedule.
